I create things that my younger self would like. So you'll see a lot of early 90’s cartoons, movies, music, Greek mythology, and monsters. For this show, I mashed up a few things. Popular culture from my birth year, and rabbits. Why rabbits? Well, 1987 was the year of the rabbit, so why not?
My process is chaotic with far too many steps. I will spend a few days ideating on a theme. I'll then gather reference photos and place them in a well-organized folder on my laptop. From there, I'm thumbnail sketching and looking through my mountain of magazines, ripping out pieces that have the right colors for whatever I'm making. I'll then create a template for the art at scale, which I will use to trace and cut pieces from the torn magazine pages. A lot of cutting and gluing happens here. Once that's all done, I move on to the watercolor and color pencils portion. Hours have passed and I'm finally happy, so I sign my name and move on to the next piece.
And then sometimes I draw a line and see where that takes me.
