Fernando Rodriguez

My name is Fernando Yair Rodriguez Castillo and I am a mostly self-taught and lifelong student of the art of photography hailing from Mexico and I have lived in Columbus since 1995. I fell in love with making photos when I was in photo class in High School. Around the same time of picking up a camera I met my closest friends at the skate park riding bikes and those two worlds enmeshed with the bike taking the forefront. After a little hiatus from shooting and after a broken wrist injury I was forced off my bike for about a year and I remember looking at a medical bill that I received and deciding to purchase a camera instead of paying the bill and I've been behind the camera as much as I can since. 

I love to experiment with multiple exposure photography using my analog cameras as well as the occasional portrait or landscape. I find that through experimenting with multiple exposures I have learned about what movement, light and time can do to create an image. In addition to that I also love the powerful impact of an environmental portrait or a landscape in fleeting light. 

I have spent a lot of time working through what specific camera bodies, lenses and films stocks work best for what I typically want to shoot and my process is both simple and a little chaotic at times. I have a big appreciation for analog photography and make all of my work using both 35mm and Medium Format film and cameras. I will utilize "expired" film at times as the color shifts that can happen from older film can add another layer to my final image. Sometimes the multiple exposures begin with the first exposure in one location and the second either in another location or often on another day altogether. For portraiture I find that photographing someone in their "space" can often tell you a story without any words.
