Jeff Meyers Jr.
June - August 2026
I’m Jeff, I play in the band Good Reverend and also Aaron, Plain and Tall. We have two albums under our belt and are excited to continue to play and tour the record across the midwest. I like vinyl, CRT TVs, VHS tapes, Star Wars, Godzilla, and tequila.
Since these pieces all reflect themes from our second record, a lot of what’s being talked about deals with letting yourself be wholly submerged by an emotion or event. There are a spectrum of emotions that seem easier to avoid in the moment, and often for our preservation we shrug them off or put them in a place we don’t tend to for a while. Lots of learning comes from letting yourself succumb, melt into, even be devoured by those emotions and letting yourself feel them piece by piece. Whether that be ecstasy, loss, frustration, admittance, it’s all got a deep end, and sometimes a dip off the diving board is necessary.
I’ve been sketching weird faces for a long time, and I’ve never taken it too seriously. Often I would get off of a bar shift and just sit at another bar to enjoy the noise and sit with my sketchbook, as a way to wind down after a long day. When I was done with the sketch, I would often hide it in the bar or tuck it inside someones car windshield. When I was approached with the opportunity to show publicly at Honest Friend, I had never done anything like that before dove head first into seeing what I could create. My sketches involve lots of big eye holes and large teeth, so I generally start with some random circles or shapes for a face and then just let the brain and the pen do the work. Most sketches don’t have a plan, I just keep drawing until I latch onto something and then gun for it.
